Details
In Genesis 18 she is behind Abraham at the tent door when a son is promised, and she laughs, and denies it when challenged. The whole canvas is hers here, Azekwoh having moved her off that edge. A single emerald field takes the body, and the gele rises out of it into a halo of sketch lines drawn in the same green. That halo is made from her own ground rather than from light, so it is not conferred on her by the promise; it was hers before the door. The face is brought fully forward out of the green. Two gold notes survive it, a hoop at the ear and a necklace at the clavicle so thin it is barely present. The eyes are closed, which withholds the laugh she is remembered for. The chapter is remembered as Abraham’s covenant, and the entry here is filed under her own name.
